Teen Farmers Residence Camp

June 23-30, 2012 (Saturday-Saturday)

August 20-24, 2012 (Monday-Friday)

Live at Dog Mountain Farm and experience farm life. Each day teens will participate in care and feeding of the animals, preparing garden beds and planting the fields, working in the greenhouse planting and harvesting produce, milking goats, and collecting eggs. Campers will learn basic culinary skills while preparing meals from farm-fresh products, including baking bread and making cheese.

Special sessions based on the interests of the campers, including poultry butchering, sheep shearing with hand sheers, and teamster training (how to harness and drive our team of Percheron draft horses), will also be offered. Traditional arts, such as working with wool (cleaning, carding, spinning), soap making, basket weaving, paper making, and other crafts will be part of the learning activities. Campers will have the opportunity to study a particular topic in depth through discussion with the farmers and readings from our extensive library.

Our residence camp is open to young women ages 13-17. Registration is limited to 6 campers. Campers will reside in our platform tent and sleep on cots. Meals will be prepared and served in our outdoor kitchen.
